A Hero’s Life
Back to lots of horns tonight for this week’s big work. Although this video is over an hour long, the Strauss only lasts about 45 minutes.
Completing the “Elgar Set”
Tonight’s big work is Elgar’s 1st Symphony.
My Favourite Piano Concerto?
This week’s “big piece” is a piano concerto – possibly my favourite piano concerto.
Gorgeous Songs – Gorgeous Singing
OK – so I admit that I am pushing it a bit to claim that today’s choice is “not the original” version – however, the order of the songs is not the same as the order they were composed and different again from the order at the original performance – so I can just about claim it!!
Mammoth Monday Mahler
Its that time of the week for something “bigger” and this week we have Mammoth Monday Mahler!!😃
Perchance To Dream
Sorry if anyone has been waiting for my moment of calm today – its a bit late… but better late than never.
Further South
Yet another Overture, by yet another composer I haven’t previously mentioned and this time played by what is now my local professional orchestra.
Gaudeamus Igitur
One composer conspicuous by his absence from my posts so far is Johannes Brahms – surprising as, again, his horn parts are usually good. So we’ll correct that omission with this one – and it includes a score so that you can practice your conducting as well 😁
For The Greater Glory Of God
A very large percentage of the 3472 Sundays that I’ve been around for have been spent worshiping in some form or other at the Salvation Army. In that time, of course, the form of worship has changed quite a bit – but it is still very much of the same tradition.
