A Fitting Finale

Well one year and around 400 pieces of music later this was the last of my regular shares of “my music” on Facebook….

It all started with the challenge to share favourite album covers and the final one I shared was Bruckner 9. That was conducted by Jascha Horenstein – choosing a version to share was quite difficult. The interpretations – and particularly the tempi chosen – are quite diverse. I personally like Bruckner to be given space and do enjoy the Celibidache recordings – but I thought they might be too slow for some. (there is an interesting video of him rehearsing the adagio if anyone is interested)

So I have gone for this one conducted by someone who made numerous recordings of Bruckner’s music.

The ending of this symphony almost always results in a prolonged silence before any applause – someone did suggest that I had chosen a lot of music for my funeral in these shares – I can think of worse endings than this symphony to go out to 😃

edit : on posting this in my blog I found that the original video was no longer available – this is not unusual. So I have substituted one of the Celibidache interpretations instead.

Anton Bruckner : Symphony No.9
