This is perhaps my favourite Christmas song – written by Michael Praetorius and arranged here by Jan Sandström
Early Music
Another Taste of the English Renaissance
Today it is back to the Renaissance – a march played on brass, but, of course, originally written for keyboard! However, this type of music works really well with a small brass group – sounds good and fun to play.
Early Music From Britain
Earlier in the week we had a couple of examples of music of the European Renaissance. Both Orlande de Lassus and Tielman Susato were from what we might refer to as the Low Countries. Today we cross back over the channel to hear music of one of the greatest British composers – William Byrd.
Even Earlier Music
Today we go back even further to 1551 and dance music played by the Early Music Consort led by David Munrow. This is another example of the contents of my LP collection!
A Calming Down After Yesterday
This is a text that has been set by many composers through the years – this is one of the older ones, sublimely sung by The Sixteen
An Even Older Carol
Again a very old carol – and once again there are many arrangements/versions/interpretations to choose from. All I can say is that this time Enya got my vote.
An Old Carol
Another old carol. Many years ago Steeleye Span released a single that rose up the charts – I’m sure many of you have heard their version of Gaudete. The B-side was this song, which I think is better!! Rather different compared to yesterday’s song.
Too Early For Christmas?
With Thanksgiving past I am going to move to “seasonal” music and we start with something soothing – as it is a Friday.
A Strangely Compelling Crossover
There is a wealth of Medieval and Renaissance music within the sacred music archives and today I link to an example of that from Spain.
Early Rock
This daily music post all started because I was challenged to post twenty album covers. I have included excerpts from most up until now – here is another one.
