Earlier in the week we had a couple of examples of music of the European Renaissance. Both Orlande de Lassus and Tielman Susato were from what we might refer to as the Low Countries. Today we cross back over the channel to hear music of one of the greatest British composers – William Byrd.
I have to admit to knowing only a very small part of the huge amount of music that dates back that far. As a result I don’t have particular favourites – but rather just love the sound of that era. There are, of course, lots of wonderful brass versions – but today it is the original vocal.
Enjoy
