This is perhaps my favourite Christmas song – written by Michael Praetorius and arranged here by Jan Sandström
Choral
For Good Friday – A Requiem
For Good Friday – a Requiem. My first choice would be Fauré – but I have shared that before so tonight it is Mozart.
More Bach For Easter
It turns out that the composer who, perhaps surprisingly, has the most entries in my playlist over the last months is the person who is getting another bit of publicity tonight.
A Slavonic Mass
Normally I post a “big piece” on a Monday – this week I am bringing it forward a day to share something that has been on my “post on a Sunday” list for some time.
A Heavenly Choir
From Haydn’s Creation – which I think may well have been the only oratorio I played on horn – a very well known chorus.
On Ash Wednesday
No variations on Paganini today (although I was tempted!) – instead some choral music for Ash Wednesday.
Timeless Music
Today I am sharing a setting of the Magnificat by Arvo Pärt. Although a modern composer – as demonstrated by the harmonies that are used – his works also seem to hark back to much older styles. Certainly the sort of music that you would not be surprised to hear from the cathedral choirs.
Holocaust Memorial Day
Taking a detour away from the Scottish theme today to mark Holocaust Memorial Day.
The Band Sings
One more clip from the video of the Band’s visit to Jönköping in 1990. I may share another one on here, but the plan is to make the whole video available via the Band’s website (for anyone who is interested) once I have processed it all.
An African Mass
Within my record collection there are a few that might qualify as “surprises” – this is one of those.
