Mammoth Monday Mahler

Its that time of the week for something “bigger” and this week we have Mammoth Monday Mahler!!😃

This was one of the LPs that made it into my choice of 20 earlier in the year and is the recording that finally convinced me that I liked Mahler – for many horn players Mahler is the best writer for horn. I had played his 1st Symphony – great horn parts – but the other symphonies sort of eluded me for quite a while.

Tennstedt makes such a good Mahler conductor – if you haven’t time to listen to all of this recording of Mahler’s 3rd Symphony then listen to the last movement – with a “phrase” at the start which just goes on and on and on… until it is difficult to keep calling it a phrase.
