Every now and again I like to share something a bit unusual – here is this week’s treat!
Year: 2021
Wind Band Memories
Was thinking about some of my wind band playing and this piece came to mind. The two Holst suites were favourites with the Glasgow school’s band and are full of good sounds.
A Symphony That Became an Opera
This piece is another that came to my attention sort of by accident. At a concert in Glasgow Cathedral (that I think I have mentioned before) I played Nobilissima Visone by Paul Hindemith. As I tended to do at that time, I went searching in a little record shop down near the Kelvin Hall for a recording.
A Heavenly Choir
From Haydn’s Creation – which I think may well have been the only oratorio I played on horn – a very well known chorus.
Time for Some More Comedy
Quite often have something ‘lighter’ for the weekend – here it is.
More Electronic Wizardry
Another example of music “digitised” – but rather more gently than the Beethoven the other day.
Another Taste of the English Renaissance
Today it is back to the Renaissance – a march played on brass, but, of course, originally written for keyboard! However, this type of music works really well with a small brass group – sounds good and fun to play.
Moonlight Unlike Any Other
Now – using much more “up to date” technology – here is a version of the Moonlight Sonata – unlike any other version I have heard.
Primitive Electronic Music
Tonight’s focus is technology – which is perhaps a bit surprising given that I have been sharing music videos!
Across to the Wild West
The Glasgow Schools summer camps in July finished with a concert in the town where the camp took place (or in some cases, like the 1st Orchestra, in a town nearby – Dunoon) that was repeated in Glasgow during the autumn. This meant that those who had been in their final year at school sometimes missed out on the repeat concert – having gone on to University or whatever.
