George McConnell
Quiz Number 1
These quiz questions were originally posted in facebook with a very short clip as a clue – so here I will post the clues before the teaserbreak. The task is to identify the composer and the music.
The First Question
Pentecost Music
My Sunday choices have all been related to the fact that for most of my life that has been a day to go to church and today’s is very much linked to the fact that today is Pentecost Sunday. This was filmed in 2002 and provokes memories of many who are no longer with us as they appear on the screen.
Not Tubular Bells
Another of the “sounds of my youth”. I was going to choose Tubular Bells – but I think I prefer this one. Listen to the music
Going Right Back To The Beginning
Almost nine years ago now since I started this blog – although I had been blogging on my work intranet for a few years before that.ย I decided that now is a good time to recap on the raison d’etre of what I am writing here.
A Lovely Voice
I confessed to my favourite composer being Anton Bruckner the other day – but I do find it hard to name my “favourite …”, whether it be favourite music, favourite performer or whatever. My moment of calm for the Friday is a song by someone who might just be my favourite singer (sorry to all my singing friends – you didn’t quite make the top of the list ๐)
My Kind Of Pop
Doing these daily posts has reminded me of just how many of my memories have got a musical accompaniment ๐ and today is no exception. The links I am providing give plenty clues as to my musical tastes and for me “going to a concert” when I was younger meant the Scottish National Orchestra (in the days before it became Royal!) proms, or the Edinburgh Festival, or Scottish Opera – you get the idea – that was when I wasn’t playing in concerts myself.
Call Me Al
As I intimated the other day I am choosing this week’s links to be representative of the wide range of more ‘popular’ music that brings back memories.
From Blue Danube Radio
I mentioned the english language cinema in Wien the other day – another part of my life there was the english language radio station – Blue Danube Radio. Due to that I was probably more ‘educated’ on pop music than at any other time in my life.
Skylarking
Those who know me are well aware that when it comes to “popular” music my choices are ‘different’ (I would say perhaps ‘discerning’ would be a better word ๐).
