For this Friday’s slow moment we turn to Fauré – but not the Requiem – this is one of those pieces that you know – but can’t quite place who wrote it and what the title is! Its perfect for relaxation.

Dancing Horns
Its been a little while since we had horn music 😂😉 so here is a fun little piece – played this many times in the concert band arrangement – but never this arrangement. It sort of sticks with the Germanic theme for this week – its the Berlin Horns – and some of them are German😃
There Is More To It Than That
Today another major work from the Germanic tradition – although I suspect that there may well be a lot of people who think that this lasts under two minutes😃
Carry On Regardless
Now I could have used my mammoth Monday selection to share Wagner’s Ring cycle, but I have decided to have an excerpt instead. There is a lot of “funeral music” around but this may well be the most “glorious”.
WARNING : Proud father post….
This was originally posted on Facebook, but I thought it worthwhile to immortalise it here as well. 😂
Mammoth Monday Mahler
Its that time of the week for something “bigger” and this week we have Mammoth Monday Mahler!!😃
Jazz Sunday
A little New Orleans Jazz for Sunday this week. This is invariably the opening number in Canadian Brass Concerts – I first head it on a recording (Unexplored Territory) – and don’t worry – the opening is supposed to sound like an old ’78’ recording – your audio hasn’t gone funny!!
Back To The Funny Stuff
back to humour today – I expect that most of my brass playing friends have seen this performance before, but it is worth repeating – and will come as a surprise to those who have not seen it.
Time For Sleep
When I was in digs in Edinburgh when studying at Heriot Watt I had one of those “record players in a suitcase” (that seem to have come back into fashion now) and I would often put on my record of Chopin Nocturnes as I went to bed – and be woken half an hour or so later by the click, click, click that signalled that the stylus had reached the middle of the LP 😃
For John Lewis
Change of plan tonight – having been watching coverage of the funeral of John Lewis it seems very appropriate to share this music instead of what I had planned. The words of this song are a good motto for anyone.
