Many of the links I have included have been to music that I have played, but there is far more music that I have encountered “by accident” so to speak – although I guess that since I have rarely been in the position of choosing the repertoire that I played even those were accidental encounters.
Today is one such ‘accident’ – I bought a recording of this for two reasons – it sounded like a good title and I already knew some music of Richard Strauss. It soon became a favourite. For those unfamiliar, it depicts a day climbing a mountain – reaching the summit in the middle – and starts and finishes in the night.
It is – allegedly – the first work to be pressed on to CD – a recording by Karajan in 1981
