A Norwegian Benediction

Following on from yesterday’s post about the band tour my choice to day is a lovely song that Howard arranged and which we used as a benediction during the visit to Norway. This is not the band arrangement (I don’t have a recording of that) – but I rather like this version.

The words are :

Thy holy wings, O Savior,
Spread gently over me,
And let me rest securely
Through good and ill in thee.
Oh, be my strength and portion
My rock and hiding place,
And let my ev’ry moment
Be lived within thy grace.

Oh, wash me in the waters
Of Noah’s cleansing flood;
Give me a willing spirit,
A heart, both clean and good.
And take into thy keeping
Thy children great and small,
And while we sweetly slumber,
Enfold us one and all.

And this is the version where I first heard the song! Gorgeous! Thanks for the reminder.

From my national service back in 1985. For many years the band of the royal guards used this tune as a conclusion of the programs.
