Music For Epiphany

Feste Romane (Roman Festivals) is much less well known than the composer’s companion piece The Pines of Rome. The final movement – the final Feste – is La Befana – Epiphany. seems tailor made as today’s choice.

Respighi set this in Piazza Navona – according to wikipedia the music manages to “create a festive clamour of Roman songs and dances, including a barrel organ and a drunken reveler depicted by a solo tenor trombone”.

The video includes all four Festes – I have linked to the start of Epiphany.
