Today we are back to music that is attempting to depict Scotland – and I have to say that Malcolm Arnold in these dances does a rather more recognisable depiction than the Mendelssohn we heard in the Mendelssohn on Monday 😃 especially in the first two movements – even if Arnold seems to sound “tongue-in-cheek” as he often did. Great fun to play.
In this quite old recording we get the added benefit of the composer conducting his own work.

Ray Farr’s arrangement for band is excellent

Interestingly the version most prevalent on YouTube seems to be the one for Wind Band – although I did notice the Grimethorpe version of the Brass Band arrangement
