Today it has to be the words of Robert Burns – and here is a voice from my childhood to sing them. Kenneth McKellar even sang at the Eurovision song contest!
The Band Sings
One more clip from the video of the Band’s visit to Jönköping in 1990. I may share another one on here, but the plan is to make the whole video available via the Band’s website (for anyone who is interested) once I have processed it all.
Good Judgement
This tune reminds me of my university days – and watching day time TV 😃 – no streaming services back then and very few channels to choose from.
Laid in Lockdown
Most, although not all, of my Friday choices have been of relatively positive/happy music. Today’s is less cheerful.
The Hill We Climb
Every now and again I do share something that is not strictly part of my musical series and this is one of those posts. Many though might argue that poetry is itself a sort of music
Boscombe in Sweden
Continuing with obscure TV themes from the distant past here is a real “blast from the past” (this is much more difficult to identify than yesterday’s) – Boscombe Band in Sweden in 1990. This has been ‘rescued’ from a VHS tape so the video is a bit patchy in quality – but we do see (much) younger versions of some of the current members of the band and many others that we remember fondly.
Where is Silver?
Another old TV theme tune – although surely this is an easy one to identify. Not sure about the rest of the operas, but the Rossini Overtures are great!
On The High Seas
Another TV theme tune for you to identify. I think this was the only music of Khachaturian that I ever played. Lovely music.
This is The Entertainment
Another choice that might not appeal to everyone – the description in the video describes this composition as “gloriously off the wall” – which sort of sums it up quite well.
An African Mass
Within my record collection there are a few that might qualify as “surprises” – this is one of those.
