Wynton Marsalis has featured a few times in my choices and here he is again with a winter ‘classic’ – performed by his quintet and featuring his daughter on vocals.
George McConnell
With Sand Art ๐ฎ
Today’s ‘long’ piece is a little longer than most that I have shared. Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker ballet has become an oft performed piece of music at this time of the year. The version I am sharing was live streamed just a few days ago from Moscow and features the Russian National Youth Symphony Orchestra.
A Farewell
Some lovely music from L’Enfance du Christ by Hector Berlioz – this performance is slower than the tempo marking – and one of the slowest I could find on YouTube! – but I think that is a good idea for this song ๐
New Year Contemplation
At some point over the turn of the year I think everyone will do a bit of contemplation – about what has been, what has happened – and also consider what is to come. Like last week, my contemplative choice has moved a day later in the week.
The Ne’erday Tradition
Probably has to be Strauss on Ne’erday.
Out With The Old – In With The New
I am thinking that first footing isn’t within the covid guidelines so here is a wee something for after the bells – sing and dance along and pretend that everyone is together.
A Hogmanay Jig
It wouldn’t be Hogmanay without a bit of what we would have described as Teuchter music ๐. This video also gives you an opportunity to learn a Scottish dance – although given the covid-19 restrictions very few will have enough people for this one ๐
A Band – But NOT Brass
There is a bit of brass in this one – but this is something a bit different from recent choices. It didn’t quite make the list pre-Christmas day
German Brass Christmas
More Brass today – I mentioned the concert by the NYPO brass the other day, it was one of several that I have viewed online over the last couple of weeks. We really are spoilt for choice when it comes to accessing good music these days. One that particularly captured my attention was from Germany.
The Winter Season
For today’s “full work” I was going to share Vivaldi’s “Winter” from the set of violin concerti that go by the title “The Four Seasons”. Then I changed my mind and decided to give you all four! ๐
