An Opera Without The Singing

From Bohemia we move westward – but not far – and the music of Wagner. There are few pieces of ‘classical’ music more beautiful than this.

One of the very first links that I shared was to Richard Strauss’ Tod und Verklärung and it is interesting that Wagner initially described the second part of this piece as Verklärung (transfiguration). The music, of course, features in the opera, however this is the version without the singer which Wagner himself constructed before the opera was ever performed. I have nothing against singers – but in this case I much prefer the “orchestra only” version.

A suitable and soothing and meditative piece of music – and perhaps yet another that would be on my very long playlist for when my time comes 😉
