A Salvation Army “golden oldie” for this week’s Sunday Choice. – Eric Ball’s “The Pilgrim Way” – first published in 1934. This is a re-arrangement for brass quintet – so probably a version that few of you will have heard before! (and yes, Eric Ball gave his blessing to this arrangement)
Glorianna was formed after the Southern Division Youth performed “Glory” at the International Congress in 1978. There were quite a few bandsmen from local corps who participated in the group over the years that it existed – apart from myself the other members of the group in this recording are Roland Wright, Garry Lawrence, Roger Born and Brian Eastment.
The concert was at Christchurch Priory with the Priory Choir. The first half of the concert comprised the Vivaldi Gloria (an excerpt of which I shared some months ago). This piece opened the second half during which ourselves and the choir presented a very varied programme.
I should apologise for the amount of tape wow and flutter on this recording – it is especially noticeable in the middle movement. Hope it is not too intrusive for you!
