The Magic of Jazz

The “Massive Monday” music is a bit different this week – will still require a bit of time to be devoted to it, but instead of a single longer work this contains a number of shorter pieces of music interspersed with an interview which traces some of the roots of jazz and the influences on jazz style.

Wynton Marsalis hasn’t yet featured in my choices, so this is long overdue and this shows him to be not only a great trumpet player but also someone who can talk knowledgeably about the music, its history and its great players as well.

I found this informative, entertaining and, when it comes to the performance of Amazing Grace, very moving. It was recorded on American independence day (5 years ago) which explains the “patriotic” music at the start.
