Russian Music

A late offering tonight – the link is to the first movement of Shostakovich 5 – another composer who wrote “interesting” horn parts. One of the ‘interesting’ things about this one is the range that is required.

At about 7:35 in this video there is a unison horn tune – very low in the register – then at about 12:35 – a duet with the flute with a horn part which soars into the upper part of the register. Fun – and challenging – to play.

There are lots more good horn bits throughout the symphony – but those two are the stand-out bits for me!
