When I posted this originally on facebook it was just a few hours after I posted this image of me performing many years ago.

Around this time of year there are various events round the world – Carnival, Mardi Gras, Fasching – and others. In Glasgow it was always the time of the student RAG week – a time of outrageous behaviour, outlandish costumes, questionable pranks and a magazine full of dodgy jokes. π±
This is as near to high jinks as I got – more likely high Gs!! π
At the bottom end of Buchanan Street, Glasgow in February 1974. (there were more than just the two of us….)
As a follow up to the picture it seemed fitting that I post some brass ensemble music this evening.
One of the first LPs of brass music that I got was Just Brass featuring the Philip Jones Brass Ensemble. The ‘headline’ music on the album was the well known Malcolm Arnold Quintet. That was accompanied by music from Stephen Dodgson, Leonard Salzedo and this one – the Symphony for Brass by Victor Ewald (also known as his Quintet No.1).
This is not the recording by the PJBE – but it is a good one. For those “in the know” – the principal trumpeter, Hans Gansch. is the older brother of Thomas who plays in Mnozil Brass.
This is lovely, lyrical music.
