(or perhaps nightmare 😂) Yesterday we had a lesser known piece by Beethoven – today we have one of the most recognisable by Richard Strauss – at least it is if you are a horn player 😉 – for everyone else it is the opening few bars of Also Sprach Zarathustra!!
The solo at the opening is – I guess the word is “notorious”. There are a few horn solos that could be pointed out where the entire audience is (seemingly) just waiting for the soloist to fluff it!! (The solo in the last movement of the New World Symphony definitely being one of those!)
Of course, there are those who would (unkindly) say that the audience are always expecting the horn player to mess something up!! 😲
