Easter Day

There is, perhaps, no music more associated with Easter than the Hallelujah Chorus from Handel’s Messiah. That said, it is not my choice for today. Instead I give you the finale of the oratorio – the chorus “Worthy is the Lamb” and the tremendous closing Amen.

I have had the privilege of performing Messiah a number of times.  Some of my facebook friends from north of the border will remember that my dad, on a number of occasions, brought together massed songsters from the area together with guest soloists to bring this music to life.

If you are looking for blame – then the first of those was my debut as a tympanist 😁 (and look where that got me!)

Happy Easter

Remember these days well, I sang in the chorus a couple of times and also played tuba in the ensemble, great memories 👏👍

June and I listened to the Messiah on Friday morning. Nearly 2 hours 30 minutes. We remembered Uncle Jim conducting Govan and Clydebank Songsters at Govan Citadel all those years ago. 1976/1977? I do remember Graham Dow playing the trumpet. Happy Easter

Round about that date – think there was at least three or four performances with the first being earlier and the last one (I think it was the last one) in 1979. I have the programme for that one so I know the date. It is interesting that my dad thought it necessary to make the whole evening even longer by adding in three congregational songs!!

Was the whole Messiah performed or was it compressed. I remember your Dad coming to Clydebank to take the rehearsals.

It was pretty much the whole – there may have been some of the sections missed out – but not much
