On Sunday I shared the Canadian Brass playing an ‘unusual’ arrangement of Bach. I thought that I could follow that up with some other arrangements since Bach has, perhaps, had his music arranged by more than most – and in many different styles.
Not The Enigma This Time
What is the first piece of music that you think of when the name Edward Elgar is mentioned? Land of Hope and Glory? Nimrod? Perhaps the rest of the Enigma Variations?
Bach And Brass On Sunday
My Sunday choice is from an album that I have already shared a track a while back. Sometimes I like rearrangements – others don’t work so well.
More Summer
Continuing the meteorological theme here is a composer who hasn’t previously featured in my posts – Frederick Delius. There are many of his works that I enjoy but my first real knowledge of the man and his music was when I saw Ken Russell’s documentary “Song of Summer” so the piece by that name fits the bill well.
Storms Have Passed
Some piano music tonight from Debussy – nice and gentle for a Friday evening.
Storm At Sea
With more storms on the way – supposedly – here is another piece of stormy music. I really enjoy the sea interludes and they work really well with the big forces deployed in this video.
Stormy Music
One of the set works when I sat the Scottish Higher Music exam was Beethoven’s Pastoral Symphony – so continuing the weather theme here is the “storm” movement – we were originally promised (threatened) with a storm tonight, but it looks like it isn’t actually coming here!
It’s Not Winter!
…but never mind. Continuing the cold theme here is a recording by one of my favourite brass ensembles – Empire Brass – A sleigh ride, now that might cool me down ❄️❄️❄️
Cooling Music
In probably a vain attempt to cool down a bit tonight I am turning to Vaughan Williams – and his portrayal of icebergs, freezing cold and snow – Sinfonia Antartica. Listened to this a lot when I was younger – haven’t done nearly so often recently, but it is still a wonderful sound picture.
Sunday Humour
This is a bit different to my ‘usual’ Sunday choices – but it seemed so appropriate 😁 – and humour is such an important facet of our lives every day.
