As Close To Heaven As You Can Get

Its not Friday – but it is a reflective piece of music. One of the comments on this video says “as close to heaven as you can get without actually going there” – which sort of sums it up.

The mum of a friend passed away this morning and this is a fitting piece of music to mark that.

Gabriel Fauré : Requiem – In Paradisium

I love the horn parts in the Requiem! And remember playing first when only in my early teens!

Indeed – although I was a little bit older when I first played it – unusual concert – sang in the Vivaldi Gloria in the first half (no horns needed of course) and played the Faure in the second half. I always hesitate to name ‘favourite’ music because it is so dependent on context, but the Faure would almost certainly be in my top ten.

One of my favourite pieces of music.
