One of the set works when I sat the Scottish Higher Music exam was Beethoven’s Pastoral Symphony – so continuing the weather theme here is the “storm” movement – we were originally promised (threatened) with a storm tonight, but it looks like it isn’t actually coming here!
Year: 2020
It’s Not Winter!
…but never mind. Continuing the cold theme here is a recording by one of my favourite brass ensembles – Empire Brass – A sleigh ride, now that might cool me down ❄️❄️❄️
Cooling Music
In probably a vain attempt to cool down a bit tonight I am turning to Vaughan Williams – and his portrayal of icebergs, freezing cold and snow – Sinfonia Antartica. Listened to this a lot when I was younger – haven’t done nearly so often recently, but it is still a wonderful sound picture.
Sunday Humour
This is a bit different to my ‘usual’ Sunday choices – but it seemed so appropriate 😁 – and humour is such an important facet of our lives every day.
Salvation Army Music Camp
I have over recent weeks shared stuff about the Glasgow Schools camps and the Wessex Youth Orchestra tour – today it is the turn of the Scottish Salvation Army music camps. Many of my facebook friends appear in this little video 😉
Different Fauré
For this Friday’s slow moment we turn to Fauré – but not the Requiem – this is one of those pieces that you know – but can’t quite place who wrote it and what the title is! Its perfect for relaxation.
Dancing Horns
Its been a little while since we had horn music 😂😉 so here is a fun little piece – played this many times in the concert band arrangement – but never this arrangement. It sort of sticks with the Germanic theme for this week – its the Berlin Horns – and some of them are German😃
There Is More To It Than That
Today another major work from the Germanic tradition – although I suspect that there may well be a lot of people who think that this lasts under two minutes😃
Carry On Regardless
Now I could have used my mammoth Monday selection to share Wagner’s Ring cycle, but I have decided to have an excerpt instead. There is a lot of “funeral music” around but this may well be the most “glorious”.
WARNING : Proud father post….
This was originally posted on Facebook, but I thought it worthwhile to immortalise it here as well. 😂
