When One Horn Is Not Enough

This is something that is probably played more frequently now than it was when I first came across it. I’m pretty sure that the first time that I ever heard it was when I played it. It is a challenge to play – especially for the 1st horn.

Unfortunately – although there are a lot of recordings on YouTube – very few of them are actually that good (which probably says a lot about the piece itself). There are plenty of “nearly there” attempts at the top E’s and what you probably would call valiant efforts!! There is a very good recording on the Berlin Phil’s Digital Concert Hall – but that is not freely available.

I think that this is one of the better renditions

BTW – the picture on the video is not of the horn players that are actually playing 😏
