A new author for me – although one that had been on a “perhaps should read” list for quite a while. Not my usual sort of book really, but it was compulsive reading – perhaps will try one of his sci-fi books in the future.

The Science of Discworld IV: Judgement Day

All the magic (and science) is there! Just started on this one and the three author’s are living up to their previous three books in this series.
Shock Wave

I inherited this book from my daughter and I don’t think I have read any by Clive Cussler before. This, it turns out, is actually in the middle of his “Dirk Pitt” book series.
It was quite a good yarn – although to my mind not as good as Tom Clancy. The plot was, perhaps, a bit predictable – which isn’t unusual in books – so it perhaps suited what I needed in my current speed reading sessions….
Command Authority

And again….
Threat Vector

Standard stuff from Tom Clancy – just what is expected…
Brainrush

This is a very unusual instance of me buying a book “by chance” – the kindle daily deal was offering this series very cheaply and I needed something to read on my tablet that was not too demanding. Turns out that these are easy reading and quite entertaining – although the fact that it goes from thriller to sci-fi/fantasy does rather stretch the bounds of believability.
There are three books in the series (got them all cheap) so I have included all the books.
The Long War

The first book in this series, The Long Earth, was mildly baffling – not because of the story itself but because it left me with a “why” question mark about the point of the story.
Knots and Crosses

This is the first book in the “Inspector Rebus” series.
Again this post covers more than one book as it makes sense to list all the books I have so far in the series.
Raising Steam

At last another Pratchett – and worth the wait. Lots of the characters from previous books appear in this one.
Dominion

Excellent story. The idea of exploring some aspects of how life might have been had the events at the start of the second world war had gone in a completely different direction is well handled. Of course, this is only one possible alternate universe!!! However, it was a good book to have added to my birthday list!
