Reality TV shows are anything but. They are sold to you as good viewing because, unlike soaps or crime series etc., you are seeing “real life” unfold in front of your eyes. However, if it really were real life (and there have been some so-called “slow TV” shows made that could claim that) then the vast majority of the programme would be dull and unwatchable (always assuming that any show of this genre can claim otherwise
Knowledge Management
Thickening Up Facebook
Its a common complaint and a justified one in my opinion that Facebook has too much “junk” and not enough content. I have been challenged over recent days over what I could do about that and this is my first attempt at formulating those thoughts.
Faking It
There is a bit of a furore about the perceived influence of so called fake news on the result of the US election. On the one hand this strikes me as extremely funny – on the other it is rather worrying (on a number of levels).
A Modicum Of Doubt
Many say it is of vital importance to hold true to your beliefs. Belief is a concept that is central to “being human”. I would like to suggest that it is more important to have doubts. That Doubt is not so much central to “being” as to “becoming”.
The Art of Communication
The more ‘knowledgeable’ I get the more I seemingly abandon the idea of certainty. Is there anything that is 100% certain? It would be possible to ask the opposite question (0% certain) but that gets into a different rabbit hole about how we can ‘identify’ what we don’t know. My early blogging, before I started this site, was focussed mainly on systems thinking as applied to my area of work – this is a bit of a return to that type of topic.
Still Hungry!!
The title of this blog “Feeding My Ignorance” is derived from the Terry Pratchett quote that appears at the top of the Wiki page. This allied to the Einstein quote on the this page illustrates that my take on ignorance is not a negative one – and that the fact that my ‘perceived’ ignorance is increasing is actually a very positive (if paradoxical) sign of increased knowledge.
On Encouraging Serendipity
There is a discussion on LinkedIn at present about the inadequacies of the “linkedIn format” when it comes to what I shall term “constructive discourse” – by that I mean that something is “created” as a result of the discussion.
Dealing With Dilemmas
One of the consequences of realising that other people are different to ourselves and, therefore, will not necessarily react in the way that you expect to situations is that we are often faced with dilemmas in interpersonal relationships because our behaviour will determine the way that the relationship progresses.
Mein Weltanschauung
Although a few of my previous posts have hinted at this subject I think that now that I have got the initial burst of activity on the blog out of the way it is time to make a clearer statement of where my thoughts are coming from and, therefore, put some context on to the content of the blog.
Of course, in keeping with the overall theme of the blog I should stress that this is work in progress and “feeding my ignorance” remains the main aim – trying to identify the context for this is important, but it does not mean that the context is fixed. As my learning increases, so the context may shift.
World 2.1 – Part 2
The advent of what is collectively known as social networking requires a rethink of how we relate to and communicate with other people both inside our businesses and in day to day life. This post is focussed on the former, but the lessons can be carried across with a significant degree of validity.
