Having broken my silence yesterday I am challenging myself to write here more often, even if it is just a few words. Today I am returning to a subject that I addressed in my only other previous post this year – friends. However I am coming at it from a slightly difference direction, one that has been occupying my mind recently.
Philosophical
Building a Highlights Reel
Some years ago now I wrote a post in this blog entitled You Don’t Know Me – this is a sort of revisit of that subject, but with a different emphasis. The topic was brought back to mind during my “70 for 70” project contacting ‘old’ friends and colleagues.
Reflections Around New Year 2023
Wow – a whole year without a single post in this blog – actually well over a year. 😮
Wise Paraphrase
Perhaps an unsurprising source for something like this, but sometimes it is necessary to skip the political correctness and say exactly what you mean. I am sure that I have at least mentioned Dunning-Kruger before – the problem with something like that is that it seems like high falutin’ mumbo jumbo to the ears of many people – so perhaps it is better coming from the mouth of John Cleese.
Imaginary Worlds
Not sure where this will go, but I have been thinking about this for a few days and it would seem sensible to try and map out some preliminary ideas. Also it is rather a long time since I was active on this blog.
The Logical Endpoint of Usandthemism
As you will have noticed – assuming you have read any previous posts – the notion of us vs them has been a recurrent topic in recent posts – and actually it goes back a long way in the posts in terms of the way in which I see the world and how we each “belong” to different groupings – often arbitrarily and fleetingly – sometimes quite deliberately and long term – and occasionally permanently due to “force of circumstances.
Shining a Little Light (I Hope)
Over recent times I have become even more aware of how much I don’t know – there are lots of things that I have learned about. To quote just one – until this week I had no prior knowledge of “Black Wall Street” and what happened there 99 years ago.
On Observing Reality
Reality TV shows are anything but. They are sold to you as good viewing because, unlike soaps or crime series etc., you are seeing “real life” unfold in front of your eyes. However, if it really were real life (and there have been some so-called “slow TV” shows made that could claim that) then the vast majority of the programme would be dull and unwatchable (always assuming that any show of this genre can claim otherwise. 😀
Going Right Back To The Beginning
Almost nine years ago now since I started this blog – although I had been blogging on my work intranet for a few years before that. I decided that now is a good time to recap on the raison d’etre of what I am writing here.
Discovery
This week would have been my turn to give a short ‘thought’ at the end of band rehearsal and given that we are not having rehearsals at the moment I have been asked to deliver it at our zoom get together instead. This is a new experience!
