Entanglement

This blog is predicated on the foundation that I don’t know everything. That – I am sure everyone who knows me will agree – is a not unreasonable starting point. 😉 Sometimes it surprises me just how much is included in the not known bucket – then I think – what about all the rest that I haven’t yet realised I don’t know – and that makes me slightly more comfortable with having such a big list of things I don’t know – it is dwarved by the (likely) list of things I don’t know that I don’t know!!!

We Are What We Are

I received an email the other day that widened my thinking on the subject of “we are what we are”. Previous blog entries have already delved a bit into my thoughts about there being no room for any consideration of going back and “changing history” by making different decisions the second time around. This email added a new “dimension” to this issue.

A Modicum Of Doubt

Many say it is of vital importance to hold true to your beliefs. Belief is a concept that is central to “being human”. I would like to suggest that it is more important to have doubts. That Doubt is not so much central to “being” as to “becoming”.

A Different Sort Of Madeleine

This is not the first attempt to put this into words. Usually, my blog posts are triggered by a thought that develops easily into a stream of ideas that are (hopefully) connected and lucid and coherent. Most times the writing is easy – perhaps too easy – as that doesn’t always lend itself to reviewing to ensure that it is expressed in the correct way. This one is a bit different….

Time To Talk

Today is “Time to Talk” Day (as well as World Cancer Day) and I think that writing something on the topic is near to essential for me. It is shocking to think that the figures show that 1 in 4 people will be afflicted with Mental Health issues in their lifetime. Once upon a time that sort of thing was taboo to talk about – not now, when it seems to affect everyone – one way or another.

Just – WHY?

As we progress through life there is – at least for me – an increasing realisation that there are things that we do – that we enjoy doing – that are seemingly unproductive, unnecessary or just a “waste of time”. Yet we persist in doing them. For some people these can be harmful – to themselves or others – for others they are entirely benign – and yet the question remains – WHY?

Is There Such A Thing As Friendly Manipulation?

It is no real surprise that when blogging on a reasonably regular basis there is a tendency for similar themes to recur.  Anyone who has read through some of my posts will have seen some of these repetitive refrains and this post is yet another angle on the recurrent theme of “there is a lot of grey between black and white”!

Who Knows?

It is clear that not everything you read online is going to be correct – indeed often it is wise to consider the possibility that nothing you read online is correct. 😀 (and yes – I do appreciate the irony of writing that in a blog post)  However, sometimes you come across something that- whilst seeming to be sensible – triggers thoughts about things that are (perhaps) wrong in the real world rather than in the online world.

Serenity

Just at this moment life seems to be very full of “situations” and it is clear that each situation can only be influenced to a limited extent.  In some cases that may well mean that no influence can be brought to bear and I don’t think there is any where full control can be applied.  For these situations it is crucial that efforts are focussed on what can be influenced – and not wasted on the rest.

Is Honesty Always The Best Policy?

Once upon a time… no this is not a fairy tale – this tale has its roots firmly in reality – this would have been my opinion.  My “gut-instinct” on this question though has changed through time.  Nowadays I would subscribe to the view that there are times when honesty is not only “not the best” policy, but is actively amongst the worst!!
