This post is a sort of follow on to The Train Of Life (if anything) from some time ago. It was triggered yesterday by seeing a figure that seemingly was first tweeted back in 2021, but which was new to me.
If Nothing Changes, Does Nothing Change
The quote (attributed to a few people) “if nothing changes, nothing changes” came into my knowledge bank today! As usual with this sort of thing it got me thinking – never a good sign…… and the result is that I want to put it into the context of my own worldview.
Who DO We Meet in Heaven
This post has been ‘brewing’ for some time without making it into the blog! For the purposes of this bit of writing we shall ignore the many mysteries surrounding the ideas of heaven and hell and simply assume that there is really a “good place” that we can all aim to attain. Some of those mysteries, by the nature of the question will need to be mentioned (but certainly not resolved) as we explore who we will meet there.
A Case In Point
A prime example of the sort of thing I was talking about in my two previous posts is the upcoming vote in the House of Commons regarding assisted dying. In fact, not only will many be uninformed about all of the things that impact this topic, I would also argue that much of the discussion actually is centered around things which are not just unknown, but unknowable.
Serendipitous Insight About Scouts
I have many times lauded the power of serendipity and yesterday it struck once again. Having written what I did yesterday morning about uninformed decisions I received a link in an email to a TED talk which was right on point about part of my thesis.
Making Uninformed Decisions
As someone who has spent many years working and researching the field of decision making I know that the process is often flawed, usually lacking all the necessary information and almost always subjective rather than objective. My experience also suggests that most decision makers are unaware of just how uninformed they are about the issues surrounding their decisions. So welcome again to the Dunning Kruger effect😉.
When Is It OK To Break The Law?
Well to me I sort of think that the ‘obvious’ answer is “never” however, as of now, the answer seems to be “whenever you like as long as you are the President of the USA”. Surely that can never be the right answer!
This Could Be The Last Time….
So has that title popped the sound of the Rolling Stones in your head 😂 … Maybe the last time – I don’t know! My previous post ended with a little “epilogue” about that. It isn’t the only time it has happened, but what particularly triggered the thought at this time was “is this the last time I vote in a General Election”?
About The Train Of Life
Continuing along the same track as my previous post (see what I did there? 😃) there are many pieces of writing that use the metaphor of a train journey to depict our own life journey. Like all metaphors (just most metaphors?) it does break down eventually, but it does help illustrate what I was getting at with the idea of ephemeral friendships.
