Unintended Consequences
The Law of Unintended Consequences has been recognised for a long time. I myself am fond of stating that the thing that will trip you up or cause a project to go awry is always the thing that you failed to consider - all of the planning and preparation and decision making that is carried out is premised on the fact that everything is known - this law suggests that premise is always wrong (assuming you are dealing with anything other than a very simple system).

Inspirational Writing
There is no doubt that if this blog goes the same way as the one that I have previously published privately then a significant number of the posts will result from the discovery of a really apt quote or article that resonates with my own views. This post is one such and is inspired by words from Viktor Frankl.

On Friends
A few things have triggered me to think about friends recently - yes, I know I always will be thinking about friends, but I mean here thinking about the 'concept' of friends rather than the people themselves!

A Blogging Newbie?
You might think so, but the reality is that I have been doing the non-web version of blogging for a long time and, indeed, I've even had a real blog for a few years on our company intranet - so with a limited (very limited??) readership.
Welcome!
The purpose of this blog is not to show off what I know; nor to seem to be clever; nor to put forward my daft ideas as "the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth"; nor to suggest that I know anything that other people don't know.
No, the purpose is to explore the limits of my own knowledge; to try to figure out the answer to "why?"; and to progress along the road that Einstein laid out in his quote that I am using as a tagline to increase my circle of ignorance - hence the name of the blog.
I sort of hope that one or two things along the way will be of interest to someone, but if not - then so be it. I will not be in any way offended! I have no idea where this is going to lead eventually, but we have got to start somewhere.
I did toy with the idea of separate blogs for different subjects, but the reality is that I am the disparate collection of subjects and they are, inevitably, interrelated - so its one blog and I shall try to use the categories intelligently to direct the curious.
