Going Right Back To The Beginning
Almost nine years ago now since I started this blog - although I had been blogging on my work intranet for a few years before that. I decided that now is a good time to recap on the raison d'etre of what I am writing here.

Thickening up Facebook
Its a common complaint and a justified one in my opinion that Facebook has too much "junk" and not enough content. I have been challenged over recent days over what I could do about that and this is my first attempt at formulating those thoughts.

A Modeller On Modelling
My previous post was a little bit away from the norm in that it really did draw on my knowledge and experience more than it tried to expand it. I am going to do that again - because "models" are seemingly all the rage and, to be honest, I am seeing so much that is familiar from my days using (and justifying) models at work that is being reflected in the current situation.

Every Little Thing They Do...
....is magic! The coronavirus pandemic has triggered two different posts - this being the first - which are not necessarily about the virus itself, but comment on some aspects of life that the current outbreak highlights rather well. We hear a lot these days about invisible illnesses and - whilst covid-19 is not always such, sometimes there are no symptoms and neither the person who is ill, nor their friends and relatives will have any idea that they are carrying and spreading the virus.

It's Not Just Me
This blog is predicated on the fact that there is a huge amount of 'stuff' that I don''t know - the quotation from Einstein sort of sums it up and I find it proven almost daily. Even so it is always comforting when there is some sort of independent corroboration in the form of someone else saying similar things - even if that does rather smack of confirmation bias.

Are We Less Smart Than We Think We Are?
I am often intrigued by the type of post that appear on Social Media that 'shout' "only the smartest can get this right" or "only people with high intelligence can do this". My gut feel is that these were simply 'click-bait' - trying to draw you in with the promise of proving that you are 'better' than many.

Just Trying To Keep Up
Social media is an evolving beast - I think that I have expressed previously my thoughts that we are all still very much in the learning curve when it comes to understanding the effect that it has on all parts of our lives. This means that there is no deep seated set of behaviours that everyone would agree as "acceptable" and that, in turn, leads to many making mistakes.

A Modicum of Doubt
Many say it is of vital importance to hold true to your beliefs. Belief is a concept that is central to "being human". I would like to suggest that it is more important to have doubts. That Doubt is not so much central to "being" as to "becoming".

The Reality Of The Past
There are a number of "recurring themes" within my writing in this blog - no surprise there as my thoughts on particular topics are developed - and one of them is the subject of memories - an interesting topic in and of itself, but my particular area of thought is with regard to how real our memories are - both in terms of what (we think) we remember and also what we have banished or simply forgotten.
Its Not Just Me
With a huge shout out to Confirmation Bias I am always ecstatic (OK maybe that is a bit too strong) when I find that others are speaking similar messages to my own. Have a look at this video - What is the Speed of Dark - and see how it mirrors many of the underlying themes of this blog site.
