My First Symphony
A few weeks ago I "featured" the horn solo from the 2nd movement of Tchaikovsky's 5th Symphony. That was the second symphony that I had played - my first ever symphony was Dvorak's 8th. Less well known than the "New World Symphony" I have played it more often.
...
The first time (in the same concert as the Prince Igor Overture that I also "featured" previously) was at the end of the Glasgow School's Second Orchestra summer school. It shows how intense the rehearsals were that after I was back home I actually wrote down the entire horn part from memory - and even now the fingering is largely still in my memory - especially the trills in the final movement.
It is the last movement I have linked to - but if you don't know the symphony it is worth listening to it all - the video has the score for you to follow if you are so inclined!!
