Overcoming Obstacles
I have had a few people asking me to post some more music links - OK, maybe one or two peopleΒ
but it is nice that they have been missing my contributions.Β I have been considering doing so - although certainly not returning to the everyday posts - but waiting for something suitable (and worthwhile) to trigger me to start doing it.Β Today I found something.

To The Hebrides
There are many pieces of music in the classical repertoire that are connected - one way or another - to Scotland. Dating from an earlier time than the Bruch that I shared on Tuesday is this famous overture. Unlike the Bruch, which was based on Scottish tunes, this is original music aiming to depict the scenes rather than being specifically "Scottish".

Where is Silver?
Another old TV theme tune - although surely this is an easy one to identify. Not sure about the rest of the operas, but the Rossini Overtures are great!

Its the Woodwind's Turn
I have, on a few occasions (ππ) featured the brass - today it is the turn of the woodwind (more specifically the clarinets. They do have some horns and tympani - so its OK π

A Farewell
Some lovely music from L'Enfance du Christ by Hector Berlioz - this performance is slower than the tempo marking - and one of the slowest I could find on YouTube! - but I think that is a good idea for this song π
The Winter Season
For today's "full work" I was going to share Vivaldi's "Winter" from the set of violin concerti that go by the title "The Four Seasons". Then I changed my mind and decided to give you all four! π
Lesser Spotted Beethoven
If we did a quiz and I asked you to name as many pieces of music by Beethoven that you could think of, I suspect that this overture would be well down the list! It was, however, the first orchestral work of Beethoven that I ever played.

As Close To Heaven As You Can Get
Its not Friday - but it is a reflective piece of music. One of the comments on this video says "as close to heaven as you can get without actually going there" - which sort of sums it up.

Missing Trumpets
The "full work" this Monday is again not too long. None of the symphonies of Schumann have featured in my choices so far - its time to change that.
Not (Entirely) Die Federmaus
What I said about tuesday's choice - that when you "mess about" you first of all have to be proficient and secondly must throw your all into it - is supremely evident in today's video. Also a second chance to play "spot the tune" as there are quite a few included that are most certainly not part of the original overture to Die Fledermaus.
