Another Moment of Calm
OK - so I appreciate that this is stretching it a bit to claim that today's choice is continuing my "types of group I have performed in" - but I have been assured that I had some piano lessons when I was young - I have no memory of them :) - my piano playing is best described as 'limited' and almost exclusively for my own pleasure.
Horn Memories
I realised that as I was going through this week I have been (subconsciously so far) picking different types of musical group that I have been a part of at some time - Concert Band, Orchestra, Brass Ensemble.... So I decided that I should continue that for the rest of the week.
My Orchestral Debut
Today's music is the Overture to Prince Igor by Borodin.
Back to School
I did, of course, start early with my musical education but my introduction to orchestral music really came when I moved to grammar school. The music teacher was aware that I already played a brass instrument, so when we first met his immediate question was "would you like to play the French Horn?" - things just went from there![]()
Easter Day
There is, perhaps, no music more associated with Easter than the Hallelujah Chorus from Handel's Messiah. That said, it is not my choice for today. Instead I give you the finale of the oratorio - the chorus "Worthy is the Lamb" and the tremendous closing Amen.
Angelic Choir
When I was living and working in Wien there were lots of things about my life that were very different to the 'normal' that I had become used to. Perhaps none more so than the Sunday routine which was slightly strange in that all of a sudden I had nothing that I HAD to do on a Sunday. More often than not I would find a concert to attend - there was certainly no lack of choice in the city and my flat was within walking distance of the Musikverein, the Konzerthaus and the Staatsoper.
Music for Spy Wednesday
I am not intending this series to have much of a theme usually, but it seems right that over the next few days I post some music that fits in some way with Easter.
