Cats (not the musical)
On Sunday I shared some music played by our Brass Ensemble, Glorianna. Much of the influence that was behind the creation of that group was from the wonderful Philip Jones Brass Ensemble. The music that they played was varied from the very old to music commissioned for the ensemble itself.
...
Today's music is Cats (no - not the musical) a collection of pieces by Chris Hazell. I couldn't decide which one to link - so I have linked them all (at least I think it is them all). There are also Three More Cats - doesn't seem to be any recordings of PJBE, so I haven't linked them here.
This is music that I really enjoy listening to on car journeys - volume turned well up - although I have to say that I would often get stuck with Black Sam on repeat because I love the way it builds to a great climax with the horn taking the melody soaring upwards.
The composer says, about the cats represented :
"The Cats Suite is loosely based on the cats (all former strays) who share my home. Mr.Jums is a ginger tom, scruffy abut affectionate; Black Sam looks like and purrs like a New Orleans gospel singer; Borage, brown and white rushes around all day long. Kraken, the only female rules the roost, though only half the size of the others."
There will almost certainly be more from PJBE in my choices later.
