The Best Things in Life are Free
This is a mantra that is widely accepted, often repeated and, in my opinion, lacking in a true understanding of the "cost" of things. There is currently a radio advert that uses the phrase and I hear it most days whilst sitting in the car - no wonder my "thinking" has been triggered.

Perspective
At an intellectual level I know full well how important it is to consider that there is more than one way of looking at things - our perspective (or point of view) is critical in defining how we react to things; how we understand and ascribe meaning to things; indeed - simply how we see ourselves in the world. It is only occasionally that you get a "real life" lesson in how even a small change in perspective can make a big difference.
Memories of the Future
Now, another facet of the mystery of memories comes from what was the kids story on Sunday Morning. Here the children were asked to imagine where they might be, or wanted to be, in ten years time. A variation on "what do you want to be when you grow up".

Creating Memories
Its not lost on me that as I write about creating memories I am, at that very time, creating memories - I have no idea whether they are memories that will persist or whether within a very short time they will - like the vast majority of memories be completely forgotten - or, perhaps more scarily, whether they will be changed in some way that I have not foreseen.

Memories - Story Telling
I couldn't help making the connection between the theme of the meeting and something that I heard on TV a couple of days ago.

Memories
I expect that if I checked back every single post in this blog has been triggered by something quite specific - even if the posts themselves are only referring obliquely to that trigger. This post is certainly no exception. Anyone who has read the other posts will realise that the way we 'see' the world is something that is important in my own personal weltanschauung and that is, at least partially - perhaps fully - shaped by our memories and experiences.

Doing and Fixing
As someone who is, by nature, destined to ponder on "why" it is no real surprise that I often find myself analysing my own thought processes - certainly a road to eternal recursion - thinking about thinking about thinking about....

On Encouraging Serendipity
There is a discussion on LinkedIn at present about the inadequacies of the "linkedIn format" when it comes to what I shall term "constructive discourse" - by that I mean that something is "created" as a result of the discussion.

On Endings
Are there any endings that we really want to happen? Even the best endings - the climax of a wonderful piece of music, the last page of a rivetting book - leave us in some way 'sad'. When we have been enjoying something good, the fact that it has ended will - no matter how much pleasure it has afforded us - inevitably bring with it at least a tinge of disappointment. Indeed it may well be the case that the better the thing is, the more we feel a "loss" at its conclusion.

What Is Going To Happen Tomorrow
Wouldn't it be awful if we knew! Yes, there are some things that we can say will (almost certainly) happen - but for the most part tomorrow is a mystery - and all of our tomorrows after that! I may be wrong, but if we knew everything that was ever going to happen in advance it would take all the fun out of each and every experience.
